Obviously now I slow down before shooting It's so weird going from that mode of having my index finger on the shutter button to using my middle finger on the shutter release almost right on that folder's lens itself. Now I shoot maybe a roll every 2-3 days and wait a week for processing. I got an Ansco Speedex 4.5 in the last couple weeks and have been shooting it every day and have hardly touched the 20D I have in my bag. I've never owned a digi cam or want one! Prob one of the very few.

I love my cam cos it doesn't look like a real camera so ppl r less self-aware when I take a pic. I have an Agfa Isolette, use TRIX film (always have except 4 a Agfa try, which I didn't like.). The reasons I love my Rolleiflex is because:Ģ) the 80mm Carl Zeiss lens is the sharpest lens ever made by Carl Zeissģ) I have every accessory for the Rolleiflex that Rollei ever made including the RolleiKin, which converts the 6圆 camera to accept 35mm film.Ĥ) the Rolleinar's (close-up lenses) are the best quality filters ever for close up photography. My favorite film that I like to use for all of my portrait work is Kodak TRI-X, and still have around 250 rolls left in the fridge.ġ) I am able to shoot polaroid, 6圆 and 6x7 from one camera.Ģ) The rotating back means the camera never moves when changing between horizontal to vertical.ģ) the waist level finder and bright focusing screen means that you don't have to have your eye stuck to a prism, though, I do have a metered prism for the RB but seldom used.Ĥ) The bonus of a polaroid back means I can check lighting and composition before committing to film.ĥ) since I have several film backs, I can change between colour and B/W between frames.Ħ) the rack and pinion focussing means I can get in alot closer than if the focussing was on the lens.ħ) because not many people have seen an RB, sitters tend to take me more seriously as a photographer.

My first Camera was a Hasselblad, but now own a Rolleiflex 2.8 F made in 1966 and a Mamiya RB 67 Pro S. I first used 120 film in 1992 and have continued to work with medium format cameras ever since. With a TLR at waist/chest height the perspective looks much better.ĥ) It's easier to ask someone for a photo because they feel that it is an "experience" to have their photo taken with such an odd looking camera.Īll images on my photostream are taken on 120 using 6圆 or 6x7. And my eye level is normally higher than their head. I went digital but missed the feel of the TLR so I got this 2 weeks ago in Prague.Ģ) You don't have your face hidden when taking a shot so you can talk to people.ģ) You take 1 shot per subject, not a dozen.Ĥ) Because I'm tall, if I hold a camera at eye level, the subjects head may be 3 feet away but their feet may be 10 feet away, a very odd perspective. Why? I had a 124G for 10 years or more but it was killed by lens fungus. The best place for good working folders is Jurgen Kreckel. Now that digital is here, they are relatively cheap.

I have always wanted to own most of these cameras but they were always out of reach. Lately, I have been looking for a Bronica SLR.

The quality from 120 film and 1950/60's cameras is amazing. I sold all my digital gear six months after acquiring my first 'Folder'. I never shot film before using a Holga, the experience was liberating and led me away from digital photography.
